Hunting with Dogs
Ivan writes:
A number of local residents are contacting me in order to seek my position on hunting with dogs.
I have always been totally opposed to hunting with dogs and was present to vote on every occasion that the issue was debated in parliament during my eight years as your local MP.
I was appointed to sit on the Bill committee that scrutinised the Burns report into hunting with dogs and I was named by a national newspaper as one of the top 100 MPs on Animal Welfare issues.
In truth, possibly the greatest accolade that I received over my opposition to hunting with dogs was to be named by the Countryside Alliance as one of the 20 MPs they most wanted out of parliament. This involved them actively assisting my Conservative opponent at the last General election and, unfortunately for me, they were successful!
I am extremely disappointed by the news that the Conservatives would seek to repeal the anti hunting legislation if they form the next government. As the present Tory MP was happy to accept assistance from the Countryside Alliance I assume he has assured them that, if re elected, he will vote to allow this barbaric practise to resume.
Should I be fortunate enough to be elected at the forthcoming General Election, I would support any attempt to strengthen the existing legislation and would oppose any attempt to repeal it.
